- A come and try or Get Into Rugby session that includes games.
- A U8 gala day where teams rotate through games and nobody is placed.
- A six week twilight series with no ladder, no finals and no published scores.
- A family fun day with mixed teams formed on arrival.

The tag and the ruck
02
Tags
- Player can only be tagged using the side tags.
- Teams have 7 tags (phases) to score a try. Only the detachment of one or both of the side tags halts a player’s progress who is in possession of the ball.
- Once the player has had one or both side tags detached, they place the ball on the ground behind them.
03
Cleaning out the Ruck
In order for play to continue
- A player from the attacking team needs to remove the back tag from their teammates belt that placed the ball on the ground, and hold the tag in the air.
- They then guard the ruck by taking step forward, re-attaching the tag and standing next to the player that was tagged
- The person at removes the back tag, otherwise known as cleaning, out the ruck” cannot pick up the ball
- This needs to be performed by another member of the attacking team.
04
Defending the Ruck
- Two players from the defending team need to stand side by side in front of the person that had their tag/s detached. They become the pillars.
- The pillars can be no more than 1m apart and 1m from the tagged player.
- Once this occurs it constitutes a ruck.
05
Offside Line
- Once a ruck has formed, the defending team must be at least 3m back from the last feet if the pillars.
Restarting play
06
Scrum
If a knock on occurs, the following can happen:
- The team that has been awards possession can restart with a 3 v3 non contested scrum
- The team that has been awarded possession can restart play with a tap, but this cannot be taken quickly.
- Defensive line must be 3m back from the scrum or tap
07
Lineout

- The team awarded possession can have a non-contested lineout (max 3 player minimum 1 plus thrower with the defence matching numbers
- The team that has been awarded possession can restart play with a tap where the ball went out, but this cannot be taken quickly.
- Defensive line must be 5m back from the lineout or 3m for the tap
08
Penalties
- If a penalty occurs for anything the referee judges to be foul play, the team awarded the penalty can only tap the ball, they cannot kick for touch.
- The tap maybe taken quickly if the team that is awarded the penalty is ready to play
General play
09
Kicking
- You can kick in general play as high and as long as you want.
- However, if the ball goes above head height, the referee will call “defenders’ ball so they have an opportunity to catch up under no pressure.
- This eliminates aerial contests.
10
Foul Play
- Anything that is deemed foul play or not in the spirit of the game. This will result in a penalty.
- Anything deemed serious, will see the player removed from the field and may result in further actions.
11
