Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus has sprung a Sunday evening surprise in naming Willie le Roux in the 30 man squad to face the Wallabies.

The star fullback was initially left out of the South African squad named on Friday due to club commitments with Wasps but he has been recalled to a squad which features just one potential debutant in centre Ruhan Nel.

While le Roux has been recalled Francois Louw is still required by Bath and will not line up in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

Star centre Damian de Allende has also been omitted due to injury but that has opened the door for Nel who has been in red hot form for Western Province in the Currie Cup.

"Ruhan comes with a lot of international experience with the Blitzboks," Erasmus said.

"He has performed consistently well for Western Province so it will be good to see how he operates in the Bok environment."

The other surprise comes up front with experienced prop Vincent Koch earning a call up.

Lions halfback Ross Cronje has also been dropped.
