ACT Brumbies and Wallabies fullback Tom Wright has re-signed with Australian Rugby.

In a big boost, Wright has turned down offers from overseas to stay in Australia beyond the home Rugby World Cup and until the end of the 2028 season.

The 27-year-old has become one of the staples of the Wallabies under Joe Schmidt.

Wright played in 12 Tests in 2024, cementing himself as the first choice fullback for Australia.

He finished the Spring Tour in red-hot form, scoring four tries in the four games, including a hat-trick against Wales.

Wright has been in strong form across Super Rugby Pacific, sitting first for metres (1,314), second for try assists (nine) and fourth for defenders beaten (41).

The former Manly Sea Eagle was linked with a return to the NRL, but believes Australian Rugby is the best place for his career heading forward.

“I’m extremely happy to have my long-term future secured here in Australia and with the Brumbies in Canberra,” Wright said.

“As a kid, all I ever dreamed of was representing the Wallabies and with the milestones coming up over the next few years, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be playing my rugby.

“I feel I’ve got a lot of growth still in me as a player and I’ll be continuing to work hard to hopefully contribute to success with the Brumbies and the Wallabies.”

This news delighted ACT Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham, who was influential in revitalising Wright’s form after he missed selection for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

“Tom has been one of our standout players for the last couple of seasons,” he said.

“He is a big part of this club and brings with him a huge amount of leadership on and off field. It’s wonderful news to have him re-sign with the Brumbies for another three years.”

“Tom has developed into an excellent outside back and we are happy to have come to an agreement to keep him in Australian Rugby for a further three years, taking him beyond the home Rugby World Cup in 2027,” RA Director of High Performance Peter Horne added.

“He has established himself as a consistent and popular member of the Wallabies squad and we feel he is entering the prime of his career as a Test player which is exciting for supporters of Australian Rugby with the significant milestones on the horizon.”
