Wallabies Matt Faessler and Josh Flook will get their chance to press for a Test recall after being brought into the Queensland Reds' squad to face the NSW Waratahs on Saturday.

Both will come off the bench on Saturday in Narrabri during the second round of Super Rugby AUS.

Faessler makes his return from a calf injury and will play his first match since the first British and Irish Lions Test.

Meanwhile, Flook was initially set to be seconded to URC club Benetton before being called into the national set-up for the Lions series.

"A big thank you to the medical and rehab team. I'm really happy to be back earlier than expected," Faessler said.

"I've had some disappointment this season with back-to-back injuries so I'm really looking forward to some minutes with the Reds boys. It's always fun going out to a country centre to play and I'm ready to get amongst it."

Reds and incoming Wallabies coach Les Kiss believes the duo's return is a perfect case for why the domestic competition was brought in.

"We are seeing another aspect of what Super Rugby AUS was created for - some quality rugby to aid Wallabies with game time when needed," Kiss said.

"They will add to the occasion in Narrabri, where we've already felt the country welcome for the Santos Festival of Rugby."

The match will be one of the highlights of this week's Festival of Rugby in Narrabri that will also see Queensland and NSW face off in Women's and Sevens action, along with the U18s (Women) and U19s (Men).

Faessler and Flook will replace Theo Fourie and Xavier Rubens, respectively.

The Reds will look to back up their win last year in Roma, which was their first over the Waratahs in the event's brief history.
