Waratahs winger Maya Stewart admits the best of the ladder leaders is still to come as they hunt for Super Rugby W redemption.

Stewart has been the spearhead behind the Waratahs' rampaging start to the 2024 season, scoring seven tries in three games.

It has the Waratahs on the verge of wrapping up the minor premiership, needing just one win from the last fortnight of the regular season to lock up top spot.

Stewart's 31 tries in her career are 14 higher than the next best Ivania Wong, who shares the record for most Queensland caps with Liz Patu at 35.

“I have a great connection with ‘G-Fred’, we’ve played together at Easts and Randwick all the way to Wallaroos so it’s awesome to just build on that connection and also linking up with Desi (Miller) on the other wing," she told reporters about her try-scoring success.

“I think all the credit goes to the set piece and the hard work of the forwards to thank for the (tries).

“We get to express ourselves out wide so credit to them.”

The Waratahs are full of confidence, especially after their 61-22 win over defending champions Fijian Drua, with Stewart getting a hat-trick.

“I think that Drua game was awesome for us," she said.

“It was great to put so many points on them and show what we can do as a team.

“I think the really important part was having young girls come on like ‘Baba’ (Waiaria Ellis) and Caitlyn (Halse) and make them on the game and really express themselves.”

The Waratahs will travel to Perth to face the Western Force in a potential Final preview after the Force emerged as the surprise packets of the competition.

A disappointing second half against the Rebels last week was the perfect wake-up call for the Waratahs as they look to tighten up their discipline.

“I think the first half was awesome and we laid the platform and then you make a few subs and then things change," Stewart added.

“Heading into this game, we need to work at closing out our games.

“I think discipline was a massive issue for us and that second half, we piggybacked them down the field and then they came away with points. I think as well we went away from our physicality and let the game play into their hands.”
