Australia has officially launched its Bid to host Rugby World Cup 2027.

The NSW Government have thrown their support behind the 2027 Rugby World Cup bid, with Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres pushing for the Final to be held in Sydney.

The bid was formally announced on Thursday as Australia pushes to host the event for the second time in its history.

The ‘Game On’ campaign was presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney as Rugby Australia looks to replicate their efforts from 2003.

Minister of Sport Richard Colback told media at the launch that every state will be involved in the hosting process, with discussions about the Final yet to commence.

"I think the '03 World Cup showed how important it is because it brings the entire country together," he said on Thursday.

"I'm sure for an event as big as the World Cup Final there will be plenty of competition.

"We have fantastic sporting stadiums across Australia that are world-renowned so the opportunity to host an event like this I think will be sought after and I look forward to this conversations."

Having hosted the Final in 2003, NSW was quick to put their hand up to host the event again.

Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres suggested that the decision to host major matches in NSW, especially the Final, was a no-brainer, pointing out their expenditure and the potential to host it at Stadium Australia.

“We’re pretty keen on it, that goes without saying,” he told Rugby.com.au.

“We’ve got the largest rectangular venue in the country. I think it’s a logical place to host the final but we’ll have those discussions with Rugby Australia.

“I think it’s more than just the Final, there’s a really big piece of work and we’ll make a very big financial contribution on behalf of the taxpayers. We want to make sure that we get a strong return on the investment."

Ayres believes that if successful, the event can re-launch the general and sporting economy of Australia, generating millions of dollars of expenditure across the country.

“It’s a team effort. It’s a Team Australia effort and the Commonwealth Government is going to play a substantial funding role but NSW will probably be the largest funding contributor from the states,” Ayres added.

“We’ve obviously got a great suite of venues that will be available during the World Cup so we’re really looking forward to working with Rugby Australia on the bid and making sure that we win this bid for the tournament.

“It’ll be a real economic boost for us probably at the same time that the world is back moving at full speed in the post-COVID scenario."
