Thomas returns for Junior Wallabies against New Zealand

Queensland Reds scrumhalf Kalani Thomas will make his return as the Junior Wallabies battle New Zealand for the Oceania U20 Championship.

Thomas partners returning Rebel Mason Gordon in the halves as they look to defend their title.

Waratahs duo Paddy Tagg and Thomas Maka as well as Western Force young gun Siosifa Amone make up the front-row after strong showings against Fiji.

Vice-captain Luke Callan is also back in the starting line-up, joined by Lopeti Faifua in the second-row.

Daniel Maiava replaces George Gibson at blindside flanker as he joins Mitch Watts and Zac Hough to round out the forwards.

Lukas Ripley returns after his stint from the bench, forming an exciting centres partnership with Jayden Blake following his double on Tuesday.

Mac Grealy retains the captaincy as he starts at fullback, joined on the wing by Floyd Aubrey and Darby Lancaster.

“Having three games in just over a week we’ve had to rotate the squad quite a bit," coach Nathan Grey said in a statement.

“It’s been really positive to see impressive performances across the board, I think we are going to be very dangerous once we inject some of our key players off the bench.

“New Zealand are going to be a tough opponent; they’ve played well this series however I think we are definitely up for the challenge following on from our success against Fiji.”

Max Craig reverts to the bench after starting against Fiji as Adrian Brown and the returning Remsy Lemisio make up the front-row reserves.

Teddy Wilson Jack Bowen and Ben Dowling provide exciting energy off the bench after Tuesday's staring performances.

The Junior Wallabies will kick-off against New Zealand on Sunday 9 July at 4:00pm AEST at Sunshine Coast Stadium.
