Wallabies scrumhalf Issak Fines-Leleiwasa is inspired to show his class as he looks to build off a maiden Test appearance at this year's World Cup.

Fines-Leleiwasa was one of the biggest bolters in recent memories, starting the Super Rugby season from the bench.

It mirrors the likes of John Roe in 2003 and even a baby-faced Jordan Petaia in 2019,

He leapfrogged the likes of Ryan Lonergan and Jake Gordon with an electric finish to the season, thrust onto the big stage against France.

"To be honest, the last few weeks hasn’t sunk in yet," he said to reporters.

"On the weekend it was a huge privilege to put on the jersey. Despite the result, I enjoyed it. I’m stoked to be here.

"The atmosphere was amazing, I don’t think it will get much better than that. It was a perfect little step up and something I enjoyed. I loved being out there. I didn’t want it to end to be honest. It was good fun."

Making it extra special was the opportunity for idol George Gregan to present his cap.

Jones has looked to further implement Classic Wallabies into the set-up, with John Eales joining them in New Zealand.

For a young scrumhalf, Gregan was the ultimate idol for Fines-Leleiwasa, relishing the opportunity to meet the World Cup winner.

"When I started watching rugby, Greegs was the No.9 for Australia. Growing up and loving rugby, it’s someone who I idolised," he admits.

"To have him in the other week was a special moment. I had met him once before but nothing to that extent.

"It was a pretty special night and that week leading in, to get to meet someone you’ve grown up loving (was special)."

Fines-Leleiwasa will likely compete with Nic White for a spot in the side, like they will do for the Force in 2024.

The 27-year-old might not have the experience of White, but versatility remains his strength, having filled in across the backline.

"Whatever it is for the coaching staff. If it’s helping out at wing on halfback, I’m happy to do a job," he added.

"We’ve been down in a few numbers so mixing in where I can, whether I’m at nine or filling in a number on the wing. It’s always good fun out there."

"He can muscle up at 7 if we need," forwards coach Neal Hatley remarked and laughed.
