The Wallabies and England faced off in the decider at the SCG.

Wallabies outside back Tom Wright has thrown his hand up for a switch to fullback as they prepare for Argentina.

Across the England series, the fullback position was almost a cursed position for Dave Rennie's men.

Tom Banks (arm), Jordan Petaia (concussion) and Andrew Kellaway (hamstring) all suffered injuries in the past month, leading to Reece Hodge's call-up from the Australia A program.

Petaia is expected to be available for the opening Test of the Rugby Championship against Los Pumas on August 7, with Kellaway pushing to return for the South Africa portion of the tournament.

However, Wright has emerged as a key option after strong performances against England, impressing during his stint at the back in the second Test when Petaia went down within five minutes.

The 25-year-old started twice for the Brumbies at fullback during Super Rugby Pacific and was ready to fill in again if called upon.

“If that opportunity arises, I’ll definitely put my hand up for that,” Wright told reporters

“I was given an opportunity there through someone’s misfortune, unfortunately. I think it’ll be good to have Jordy (Petaia) back in the selection mix and we’re only going to be better off for it as a team.

“Definitely fullback is something that excites me and you get a few looks at getting the ball at different parts of the field.”

Wright and the Wallabies have settled into Buenos Aires over the weekend before making the move to Mendoza in the coming days.

After a disappointing series defeat, they head into the Rugby Championship not looking to 'die wondering' as they focus on counter-attack.

“We wanted to be a whole lot better in certain areas of our game, We were pretty disappointed, we had a plan to go out there to do specific things (against England) game-plan wise and we weren’t able to execute and died wondering ‘would that have worked,” he believes.

“It was a good little bit of preparation in seeing those things and a few harsh conversations with one another and staff. Being able to put that to bed was pleasing and preparation can start with a fresh mindset of getting the ball rolling...

"Probably the biggest over-arching area we talk about is our effort areas in and around counter (attack). It’s so much individualised but you can create opportunities for your teammates off the ball if you put your head down initially and work hard for the first 5-10 steps.

“You may then draw a body or create some space for the teammate with a little bit of effort, looks after the guys beside you.”
