Waratahs playmaker Mack Mason responded emphatically to his Super Rugby omission with a man of the match performance for Easts in the opening Shute Shield round.

Randwick no. 8 Christian Poidevin, son of former Wallaby Simon, had a try on debut for the Wicks playing against Eastwood but it the Galloping Greens were humbled at home in that clash.

Rebels lock Esei Haangana started for Randwick as well, with Victoria's Dewar Shield not due to start for a fortnight.
