The Brisbane Tens will be put on hold in 2019, with the Rugby World Cup taking too great a chunk out of the available playing pool.

Wallabies and All Blacks stars alike were either unavailable or very limited in their minutes this year and with more rest expected for the game's superstars through the 2019 Super Rugby season, tournament organisers have pressed pause on the tournament.

NRL's Nines tournament - also run by Duco Events - did the same last year ahead of their own World Cup.The 30,000 total attendance at Suncorp Stadium this year was well shy of the expected turnout and whether the Nines and Tens swap destinations remains to be seen.

One added bonus of this year's edition was the women's fixtures, which culminated in a thrilling QLD-NSW extra time grand final. The crowd didn't turn out in droves at Suncorp. "We’ve considered many scenarios for 2019 but, unfortunately, we haven’t been able to come up with a viable option.

"Unfortunately, the World Cup would almost certainly have had an impact on our ability to attract the very best players to the tournament in 2019.

"While that is disappointing, we do understand and accept the requirement of the competing nations to place the world cup at the forefront of their planning.

"Moving forward we believe the event’s future is bright. The level of entertainment on the field well and truly lived up to expectations."
