The inaugural Junior Gold Cup has finished competition for the year with Western Australia claiming the Under 17s title against Victoria and Victoria winning the Under 15s at Suncorp stadium against Brisbane Purple.

In the Under 17s WA defeated Victoria, 28-19, at McGillivray Oval in Perth.

The match started intensely with both sides unwilling to give the opposition the upper hand, with WA looking the stronger of the two sides in the first half.

Western Australian Fly Half, Nicholas Jooste was on song with both boot and ball in hand kicking three penalties and two conversions. He was also creative with his backline and comfortably directed play during the match.

Development Pathways, Junior Gold Cup Manager, Hugh Carpenter was highly impressed with standards of both teams.

“What we saw was a really high quality Grand Final with Victoria just falling short at the end.

“WA dealt with the pressure of the Grand Final superbly and it was a truly well-deserved victory, Victoria will take a lot from this match and it will only serve to further develop their Rugby abilities.”

The Victorian Flanker, Robert Leota-Lu impressed the crowd and was awarded the ASICS Player of the Final for his performance.

In Brisbane the Under 15s Grand Final was a curtain raiser to the St.George Queensland Reds-Western Force match with the Victorian side winning 30-21 against Brisbane Purple.

General Manager Development Pathways Ben Whitaker was very impressed with the final in Brisbane.

“The standard of both Brisbane Purple and Victoria was fantastic and even though Victoria got the win today Brisbane Purple can be proud of their efforts.

“Overall we’ve been really happy with the entire Junior Gold Cup Competition from our players, coaches, volunteers and officials. We are excited to watch this competition grow, evolve and create the next generation of elite Rugby players in this country”.

Sione Tui from Victoria was named the ASICS Player of the Final for the Under 15s.
