George Smith has won the poll for the second week in a row after fans voted him as the former Wallabies player, who starred against the Lions in either 1989 or 2001, they would most like to see pull on the Gold jersey to face the Lions in 2013.

As one of the Wallabies’ most powerful and skilled players, Smith is, according to fans, both the most notable player of the 2001 Lions Tour to Australia and the one they would like to see join the Men in Gold next year when they face the Lions in a Tour that’s been 12 Years in the Making.

This is the second fan accolade for Smith in as many weeks, as last week he was voted the most memorable player of the 2001 British & Irish Lions Tour by fans. Up against the likes of Wallabies legend Joe Roff and British & Irish Lions talent, Jason Robinson and Martin Johnson, Smith took out last week’s poll with 44% of the votes.

This week he won with 33% of the votes, David Campese came in second at 20%, George Gregan close behind on 18%, followed by Michael Lynagh on 16% and Nick Farr-Jones on 12%.

The poll was one of the closest yet with several tied scores during the week. After day one, Lynagh and Campese were neck and neck, each with 17% of the votes. Earlier this week, Campese and Gregan were tied on 20% of the votes.

Smith had a clear lead, remaining 12% in front of the four other former Wallaby powerhouses for the majority of the week.

This week’s new poll is the final one for the year, asking fans which Qantas Wallabies v Lions match-ups do they think is the most mouth-watering, David Pocock v Sam Warburton, Kurtley Beale v Jonny Wilkinson, Adam Ashley-Cooper v Brian O’Driscoll, Digby Ioane v Chris Ashton or Robbie Deans v Warren Gatland.
