Wallaroos skipper Siokapesi Palu Sekona is turning to recent history in order to fuel the belief that a 31-year drought against the Black Ferns can end on Saturday afternoon.

The Australians have never beaten their New Zealand counterparts, dating back to the Wallaroos' inaugural Test in 1994.

29 straight defeats have followed that game, with the Aussies coming full circle in their 100th ever match.

But the injection of Sevens talent and a fierce Women's Super Rugby Champions Final has helped lift the spirits of Palu Sekona and the Wallaroos.

There are four players from the World Champion Sevens program named in the 23, including Australia's all-time leading try-scorer Maddison Levi.

The quartet were influential in taking down the Black Ferns Sevens during the three-leg Championship, with Palu Sekona drawing on the winning experience.

"They are no strangers to this level of playing, and I guess it gives confidence to the rest of the team knowing that there is going to be an extra level of speed and skill that can complement the game that we've been doing," she told reporters.

"The Sevens girls have been in a space where they have beaten that New Zealand side, so it's just up to us to make sure we piggyback off that success.

"It's a slate for us to rewrite the history that we've had with them, and we've got the injection of those girls who have already been in that space, so it's just up to the individuals to make sure we jump on."

On top of that, the squad is filled with NSW Waratahs talent that almost took down the Blues in the cross-over Final at the start of the month.

This includes coaches Mike Ruthven and Duncan Chubb, with the team going toe-to-toe with the three-time champion Blues, only for their late comeback to fall short.

"They did really well to not only make the Super Rugby W Final but also that crossover, performing quite well against the Blues, who are a quality side and a lot of their players are injected into the Black Ferns team," Palu Sekona notes.

"I'm going to take a little confidence in those Tahs girls who are quite in form to definitely be the fundamentals to this Wallaroos team."

The hunt for the maiden win over the Black Ferns comes against the backdrop of the team's shift to professionalism, set to occur in the coming months.

"This team has changed so much, not just on the field, but off the field. The template of what we strive to be professional and what the standards are is definitely going to be amplified due to that Sevens background coming in," Palu Sekona added.

"That's super exciting is because we know full-time opportunities are coming up, we're looking for an exciting back-end of the year for the Wallaroos as girls try to put their hands up to put their best foot forward.

"What that means is that individuals push to be the best version of themselves and that's only going to push the Wallaroos to be better.
