Maya Stewart (Waratah #150) is a Nelson Bay who stars for the Waratahs and Wallaroos.
Stewart played several sports as a teenager including touch football and rugby league. She began her rugby career with the Nelson Bay Gropers before moving to the Hunter Wildfires.
She was quickly identified by the NSW Waratahs but endured a difficult start to her Super Rugby Women's career with an ACL injury in 2021.
Stewart returned to the field and enjoyed a strong 2023 season with 19 tries in 12 games for the Waratahs.
She broke the record for most tries in Wallaroos history, touching down in seven consecutive games to finish the 2024 season as player of the year.
Stewart's individual efforts earned high praise with her try against Wales in WXV 2 earning try of the year honours at World Rugby's awards night.
Stewart was selected for a second World Cup campaign in 2025 and is the current all-time leading try-score at both state and international level.
