Gradual development
Evolution is another word for change. These laws will evolve our game.
Our game is evolving, and so is the way clubs deliver it. A comprehensive review of junior rugby looked at how the game is played and experienced at the junior level, and how laws and game design can better align with young players’ needs, modern coaching practice and contemporary safety standards.
The new laws, developed and piloted through the national Junior Law Review, evolve the game one age group at a time. For club volunteers, that means one clear national format for each age group, so you can set up game days that give young players greater time and exposure to key areas of the game, supporting meaningful involvement, skill development, confidence and enjoyment.
One national format per age group, so fields, fixtures and setup are easy to plan.
U9&10 and U11&12 each share a field, ball and match time across both years.
One national law set, so visiting teams, coaches and match officials arrive knowing the game.
A safer, more enjoyable game keeps players in the sport, and keeps teams on the field season after season.
