The Queensland Rugby Union and Rugby Australia are delighted to announce that talented back Treyvon Pritchard has been re-signed through 2029.

It is a major retention win for rugby with Pritchard showing his match-turning skills for the Queensland Reds, Australia Under-20s and Australia Under-18s over the past 12 months.

Today’s news means Pritchard, 19, will continue his development at Ballymore under new Reds Head Coach Vern Cotter and his staff.

While already contracted to the Reds for 2027, the extension for 2028 and 2029 recognises the great potential still to be unlocked within one of rugby’s most exciting young players.

“I love rugby union. It’s the sport I’ve played growing up and I want to see where the sport takes me,” Pritchard said.

“I always wanted to extend and create something long term. The Reds is where I want to be. I want to be part of growing as a team and a nation.

“The hype around Australian rugby is very exciting with the World Cup next year. For me, it’s also great to see so many good young guys coming through the Reds and all the Super Rugby clubs.”

Pritchard said his experiences in 12 games at wing and fullback in his first season of Swyftx Super Rugby Pacific were all part of his drive to build his rugby career with the Reds.

The Reds were bold enough to select him at 18, while still at school, for his debut as Queensland player #1421 against Japan’s Saitama Panasonic Wild Knights last October at Ballymore. It also highlighted the belief in him from the Reds coaching staff who had monitored his initial steps through the Buildcorp Reds Academy.

“The Reds are a great organisation that don't see age as a limiting factor. They have already given me a lot and I want to repay that faith,” Pritchard said.

“I felt I had the chance this year to really settle in at the Reds and find my feet. It was definitely a test throughout my first season in Super Rugby Pacific and that constant challenge of myself and my skills definitely made me a better player with more game awareness.

“I’ll always be a confident guy in believing in myself and dive in head first. The Reds boys really helped that and constantly encouraged me to do what I do to add value to the team.”

Pritchard was upbeat about his time under former Reds Head Coach Les Kiss and is looking forward to Cotter’s arrival.

“The coaches have been great for me at Ballymore. All coaches have a different perspective and I’m excited to work under Vern with his strong background in New Zealand,” Pritchard said.

“I’m always looking to learn new skills.”

The versatile Pritchard said wearing the colours of his country for the Australia U18s and Australia U20s had added to his sense of pride.

“Wearing a gold jersey for the Wallabies is definitely an ambition and has been since I joined my first junior club for U12s,” Pritchard said.

"I'm still earning my stripes in Super Rugby where you have to keep striving for anything else to be possible.

“It is such an honour to represent your country as I’ve been able to do in U18s and U20s. It’s such an emotional experience and you want to do your best for your brothers alongside you.”

Pritchard started his high school education at St Peters Lutheran College in Brisbane before finishing it as a midfield star for Anglican Church Grammar School in 2025.

Sam Cordingley, the Reds General Manager High Performance, said signing Pritchard is a great result for Queensland and Australian rugby.

"I'm sure I can speak on behalf of the entire Queensland Rugby community when I say we are all excited that Treyvon has recommitted to the Reds," Cordingley said.

"He has been with us since he was 15 and has developed into one of the most exciting talents to emerge from the Queensland Rugby pathway.

"Securing his future at home is a great outcome for Trey and his family and we look forward to seeing what he achieves in the years ahead."

Rugby Australia Director of High Performance Peter Horne said: “We’re delighted Treyvon has committed his future to Australian Rugby and the Queensland Reds.

“He’s clearly a special talent and having been developed through the Australian Rugby pathways, we’re looking forward to continuing to help grow his game and develop him on and off the field.

“We’ll continue to support him through his current injury setback and look forward to seeing him back on the field doing what he does best soon.”
