The Wallaroos face Samoa in their opening match of the Women's Rugby World Cup 2025.

Wallaroos head coach Jo Yapp is opting for consistency in her starting side to face the USA on Sunday (AEST) in York.

Only two changes have been made to the side that won 73-0 in Salford last week, both coming in the front row.

Those changes come in the form of the experienced pair of Bridie O’Gorman and Tania Naden, with Katalina Amosa and Eva Karpani both being moved back to the bench to provide a critical injection of power as finishers.

Faliki Pohiva will earn her sixth start after a strong performance last week, with Kaitlan Leaney retaining the co-captaincy for a second week alongside Emily Chancellor.

Despite joining the squad with the goal of making this game, veteran Siokapesi Palu will miss out on the crucial fixture due to her ongoing foot injury, with Yapp opting for an unchanged second row and loose forward pairing.

Samantha Wood will retain her position at scrum half alongside Faitala Moleka, while Cecilia Smith and Georgina Friedrichs complete an imposing centre pairing.

Criticially, Desiree Miller and Maya Stewart will also start alongside Caitlyn Halse in the back three, with Miller passing her HIA after their win over Samoa.

Completing the changes, Yapp has beefed up the bench, with Lydia Kavoa joining Amosa and Karpani as the front row replacements, with Brianna Hoy and Adiana Talakai rested.

Annabelle Codey will also come onto the bench in place of Ashley Fernandez as the second row option, while Ashley Marsters retains her place as a critical finisher to up the tempo.

Finally, Layne Morgan and Tia Hinds will also retain their bench positions, with the 40-capped Trilleen Pomare replacing Lori Cramer as an additional utility option.

"Overall we were pleased with our performance against Samoa last week but in the context of our campaign, we know the match coming up is a big one for us," said Jo Yapp in a statement.

"The USA will be physical and we’ll need to match that. We have been happy with how we’ve trained this week and we are excited for the challenge on Saturday.”
