Both the Women and Men entered the deciding event of the three-leg World Championship with title aspirations after their respective wins in Spain.

The Men would have their dreams ended by eventual Bordeaux winners France, but bounced back to secure their top-four spot. But the afternoon belonged to Tim Walsh's champion team as injured superstar Maddison Levi returned to deliver a masterclass.

Here's what they had to say after a golden day in France.

Player of the Final Maddison Levi

"It’s pretty surreal, I think the girls playing the first four games of the tournament leading up to the final was just a momentum builder.

"They helped me get back and I wouldn’t be here without them. We spoke before the game that it’s been our most consistent season and we’ve been in every final

"Win or lose in that game we’re building as a program, creating depth and to go out and beat an amazing New Zealand side.

"It’s always hard when we play them. No matter when we beat them it’s always a tough game."

Australia Women’s Sevens co-captain Isabella Nasser

"We have an amazing squad at home and the depth of our program is unbelievable.

"We saved the best until last in regards to our performance and to be able to perform at the crunch time in the World Championship is really important to us.

"I’m just really proud of the girls and how they showed up."

Australia Women's Sevens coach Tim Walsh

"I was glad New Zealand beat Canada in the semi-final so it was a fitting end for both teams and the battles we’ve had throughout the season.

"The two most consistent teams going head-to-head for the title but I thought in the end our big game players all stepped up and the depth in our program means we have more than one player capable of turning a game at any moment.

"Champions are not stars. Champions are team players that consistently show up and perform even when they don’t feel like it.

"Being in Bordeaux we themed this tournament as the 2026 vintage. We visited a vineyard for our jersey presentation and wanted the 2026 vintage to be remembered and we’ve done that.

"It was a collective effort from everyone here and back home who has been part of our squad and our program is only going to get stronger next season."

Australia Men’s Sevens coach Liam Barry

"It wasn’t the performances we were looking for this weekend after last week’s efforts but I couldn’t be prouder of the group for the past fortnight and this season.

"To walk away from Europe finishing fourth overall, with a title in Valladolid and qualifying for next year’s World Series is a great result for the program and reflection of where we are heading as a squad.

"There has been a tremendous amount of growth and development from players this season and everyone has contributed in some way throughout the year."
