Western Force coach Simon Cron has put his faith in Kiwi playmaker Alex Harford to keep their finals hopes alive in Lautoka.

The 25-year-old Harford will start at flyhalf for the crucial match at Churchill Park, with Cron making many changes for the contest.

Harford has been a standout in the NPC competition in previous years, featuring for Canterbury and Auckland.

The move sees Ben Donaldson named on the bench, with several Wallabies missing the trip to Fiji.

Harry Potter, Hamish Stewart and Nic White will all be rested, while Carlo Tizzano remains out with a pectoral injury.

On top of this, Nick Champion de Crespigny (concussion) and Lopeti Faifua (calf) are both unavailable.

As a result, centre Reesjan Pasitoa starts at inside centre, with Reed Prinsep and Sio Tomkinson elevated from the bench.

Pasitoa and Tomkinson will combine in the midfield, leading to Bayley Kuenzle's shift back to the wing.

Brandon Paenga-Amosa provides experience off the bench after he was cleared of an ankle injury.

Cron admits the club needed to factor in the travel burden as they push for a finals berth.

“We always knew there were some real challenges in the draw this season," he said.

“Out of the last five games, four of them have four-hour time zone shifts and each one of those involves anywhere between 11-17 hours travel door to door so we must maximise our chances of success.

“To do that we have tried to rotate some squad members who we feel are most at risk due to high minutes or lots of travel.

"This also gives other players in our squad a chance to step up which is critical for the long-term success of the club.”

FORCE (1-15): Ryan Coxon, Nic Dolly, Tom Robertson, Jeremy Williams (c), Darcy Swain, Will Harris, Kane Koteka, Reed Prinsep; Henry Robertson, Alex Harford, Mac Grealy, Reesjan Pasitoa, Sio Tomkinson, Bayley Kuenzle, Kurtley Beale
