The Force were looking to keep their finals hopes alive against the visiting Hurricanes.

The Western Force have received a major boost with back-row duo Ollie Callan and Jackson Pugh signing two year extensions.

Callan made his debut in 2020, coming off the bench during their Super Rugby AU opener against the Waratahs.

The Wanneroo product has experienced a breakout 2022 season, making 11 Super Rugby Pacific appearances as he developed into an integral part of their backrow.

“I’m a proud Western Australian, Perth is my home, so I’m really excited to be staying at the club for another two years," Callan said in a statement.

“My old man played for Wanneroo, so it’s special to be playing here in front of my family and friends.

“I grew up watching the Force, so to be playing for them and re-signing is massive for me. We’re moving in the right direction and building nicely with a squad that’s eager to learn.”

Pugh made his debut in round three this year against the Reds, starring in his starting debut against the Chiefs before playing a major role in their win over Moana Pasifika.

The 22-year-old is eager to build on his seven appearances, excited about the direction the club is going in.

“To get a taste of Super Rugby with the Force has been a dream come true having supported them since I was a kid,” Pugh said.

“This year has been an unreal experience. To make my debut and go on tour with the squad was everything I hoped it would be.

“I’m really excited by how the club is progressing and I can’t wait to put the work in over the next two seasons.”

GM of Rugby Matt Hodgson was delighted to retain the home-grown duo, believing they can play a major part in the club's future.

“Having graduated from the Future Force Academy together in 2020, Ollie and Jackson are showing they belong on the Super Rugby stage,” Hodgson added.

“To have young local talent commit their futures to the club is very pleasing. I can’t wait to see them develop their games further in a Force jersey.”
