Tom Banks was shown a red for this tackle attempt on Toni Pulu.

Brumbies fullback Tom Banks has been red-carded for a high tackle during their round six clash with the Western Force.

Banks was integral to their visitors' strong start, putting Andy Muirhead through for the first try of the game before scoring one of his own as they took a quick 20-3 lead.

However, the Wallabies fullback's night took a turn for the worse in the 20th minute as the Force went on the attack.

Banks' opposite number Jake Strachan looked to take advantage of the rush defence, putting a perfect grubber in for Toni Pulu.

As Pulu went to put the ball down, a charging Banks attempted to put him into touch, with the fullback making direct head-to-head contact as he tried to stop the try.

It proved successful as the Wallaby call-up would lose the ball over the line, however, Banks clearly came off second-best as he was left ginger after the collision.

He would end up receiving more than a headache for the play as referee Angus Gardiner sent it to the TMO.

They would find little mitigating factor and with no other defenders around, found no other option but to award the penalty try to the Force and a red card to Banks, who was already off the field for a HIA.

Brumbies coach Dan McKellar confirmed Banks has suffered a suspected facial fracture, disagreeing with the red card.

"It's a high-speed, high-collision game," McKellar told Stan Sports.

"Banksy is coming across at full speed, TP changes direction and there's a head clash.

"If Tom Banks has a nasty bone in his body or goes out there to deliberately hurt someone, then I don't know the bloke.

"I thought the decision was wrong, and as a game we have to look at those sort of things."

The Brumbies held on for a 39-38 victory over the Force despite the red card, with Andy Muirhead finishing with a hat-trick.
