North Sydney-born flanker Luke Reimer will join the NSW Waratahs from the ACT Brumbies ahead of the 2027 Swyftx Super Rugby Pacific competition.

Wallaby Reimer, 25, has signed a two-year deal with his hometown club and will make the move following the 2026 season, which will be his seventh for the Canberran side.

Reimer thanked the Brumbies for his time in the nation’s capital and is looking forward to returning to Sydney and linking up with his former coach Dan McKellar at the Waratahs.

“I’d like to firstly thank everyone involved with my time in Canberra, from all the staff at the Brumbies, to all the fans that have continually supported both myself and the team,” Reimer said.

“I will forever be grateful for my time in this great city and will always treasure being part of the Brumbies Family. I remain fully committed and focused to giving my best for the team in 2026 and will leave no stone unturned in my preparation and performance.

“As I move into this new chapter at the Waratahs, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to reconnect and work with the coach who gave me my first shot at my dream. I am excited for this homecoming to Sydney and keen to play my part in strengthening Australian rugby.”

Reimer was raised in Killara, New South Wales, playing his club rugby for the nearby Lindfield in his youth.

He was educated at Barker College in Hornsby, with alumni including the likes of former Waratahs Richard Harry and Cameron Shepherd. From here, Reimer went on to earn selection for Australian Schoolboys and would make the most of his opportunity, receiving the Bronze Boot award in 2018, a prestigious award given to ‘the most constructive player in a school Test series.’

The flanker joined the Brumbies pathway program in 2019, making the move to Canberra after also impressing for Warringah Rats in Sydney’s Shute Shield.

He made his debut for the Brumbies and McKellar in the 2021 Super Rugby AU semi-final against the Western Force, instantly coming on to make an impact, securing a turnover and a win for his side.

Reimer made his Wallabies debut in 2024 against South Africa in the Rugby Championship at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, coming on as a substitute.

In 2025, he scored two tries against the Fijian Drua in Suva in Round 1, including the match-winning score that meant the Brumbies became the first Australian Super Rugby franchise to win in Fiji.

Reimer is known as one of the best breakdown specialists in Super Rugby Pacific and McKellar is delighted to secure the signature of the Warringah Rat for 2027 and beyond.

“It’s fantastic for us to sign another proven backrower in Luke to provide competition in that area,” McKellar said.

“Having worked with Luke before, I know the qualities that he will bring to us. He’s a talented footballer who has an instinct of when to capitalise on crucial moments, particularly at the breakdown.

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming him back to New South Wales and the Waratahs ahead of the 2027 season.”
