Wallabies coach Dave Rennie has named Jock Campbell for his maiden start as he confirms the team to face France.

Campbell came off the bench during last week's 16-15 victory over Scotland, with an ankle niggle to Tom Banks paving the way to come into the run-on side.

“We were keen to give him a start on this tour. We considered the Scotland game because he came out of the ‘A’ Program with good form and he’s had a really good year," Rennie said to reporters.

“He’s trained with us for a number of weeks now and he’s impressed us. He’s a really smart footballer with a really good skill set.

“He’s not a kid, he’s had to work hard for his opportunity, he’s 27 so he’s quite mature so we reckon he’s ready to go.”

Rennie has continued to freshen up the side, rotating scrum-halves with Nic White named to start.

Jake Gordon comes off the bench, set to start next week against Italy, whilst Rennie praised Tate McDermott for his impact in the opening Test of the tour.

"Tate was good and we expected that. He made a line break early and got a line bend beyond that, it was quite noticeable when Nic White came in the quality of his distribution and the speed to breakdown which allows us to play quicker," Rennie explained.

"As we talked about, we have three excellent nines on tour and an excellent one in Ryan Lonergan at home so it's a position we have genuine depth in."

This continues into the front row with Taniela Tupou replacing Allan Alaalatoa (concussion).

Tom Robertson has been elevated onto the bench, joined by the returning Will Skelton and Pete Samu.

Lalakai Foketi regains his spot in the starting side after leaving the final Bledisloe Test with injury, pushing Hunter Paisami to the bench alongside Reece Hodge.

"I think playing five Tests over here, I reckon we'd struggle late in that and we've talked a lot about sharing the load. We want to give guys the opportunity to push for a World Cup and learn about them," Rennie added.

"We've made a handful of changes this week and we think we have a strong side on the paddock...it's a very strong pack and we think a good enough side to be competitive, that's our challenge."
