An action-packed weekend that saw the Lions eventually prevail over a determined Waratahs outfit, and a Wallabies side nearly beaten by Fiji sees the tour enter a new phase, as the first Test in Brisbane draws ever closer.

But for Darby Lancaster, the experience has been one of the most exciting in his young career.

The young Wallaby put in a stellar performance against the tourists on Saturday night, proving a handful for opposite numbers Blair Kinghorn and Mack Hansen, and crossing the line for one of the Tahs' two tries.

Lancaster is now in line to potentially face the Lions again this weekend in Adelaide, being named in the 30-man squad for AUNZ Invitational XV. The side officially met up over the weekend, commencing preparations for their fixture.

For Lancaster, the experience has been one he is relishing when he spoke to reporters following the end of the Waratahs match on Saturday night.

"That's probably the biggest crowd I've played in front of," Lancaster admitted.

"It was an unreal feeling getting across the line. I don't think I've felt much like that before.

"They're absolutely world-class players and I just love the experience to have a go against them. Just rip in, they're very good players and I've watched a fair bit of their game and learnt a bit off them.

"I had a yarn, I was against Mack Hansen, I had a chat with him and obviously he's an Aussie boy. I swapped jerseys with him, he's a really nice bloke."

Despite the proud performance, Lancaster admitted there was disappointment - admitting he believed the Waratahs, despite being heavy underdogs going into the match could have shocked the rugby world and pulled a win in front of a record crowd.

"To my bloody heart, I felt like we could have won that game," he said candidly.

"Just a couple of little moments slipped, but I'm super, super proud.

"I don't know how many times we really stuck in the defence there and had them out. I'm more proud than disappointed. It was a hell of an occasion.

"I'm pretty hopeful that we put out there a performance that the fans can be proud of."

But was it enough for him to catch the eye of Joe Schmidt and make it back into the Wallaby camp?

"If he calls me in, he calls me in," Lancaster affirmed.

"Until then, I'll just keep training and playing the best footy I can."
