An electric start to the Tour from the Lions

Melbourne-born Lion Sione Tuipulotu knew there might be some friendly fire in his first game back on Australian shores.

What he probably wasn't expecting was an extra barrage off-field with the Optus Stadium ground announcer all too eager to highlight his country of origin to the 46,656-strong crowd.

It's just the latest in a string of good-natured Aussie chat thrown Tuipulotu's way - but fair warning, he's only getting better.

"I knew there would be some good humour coming back home to Australia," Tuipulotu told reporters post-game.

"So, no, look, these are all things we've got to take in our stride. And, look, to not announce the elephant in the room, I am from Australia. I was born here. I don't know how funny that gag is to everyone.

"But, yeah, look, I'm loving my rugby playing for the Lions and I'm really passionate about it.

"Obviously, I haven't played test rugby since the autumn so, yeah, I'm getting my feet back underneath me."

Tuipulotu looked more at home in his favoured inside centre role than last week's showing outside Bundee Aki.

Saturday's combination with Garry Ringrose yielded positive results with Tuipulotu's footwork complementing the Irishman's bone-jarring defence against the Force.

Tuipulotu also paid tribute to Lions coach Andy Farrell and backed himself to continue improving under the former England hardman.

"(Ringrose) is a missile out there, isn't he? He backs himself to make those reads and geez, he left a few sore bodies out there, including himself," Tuipulotu said.

"Andy's brought the group together so well. And to play under a coach like him, I can see why Ireland has been so successful in the past.

"I feel like the way he's bringing this group together, we're headed in the right direction.

"I still feel like I've got massive growth to do during this tour but I'm getting my feet back underneath me and I know I can start playing my best rugby towards the bigger games at the end of this tour."
