Sione Tuipulotu opens the scoring in the first Test of Lions Tour 2025

British & Irish Lions coach Andy Farrell has tweaked his matchday squad for Saturday's Second Test in Melbourne - headlined by the absence of Sione Tuipulotu and return of his son, Owen.

Melbourne's own Tuipulotu was a surprise omission from the Lions midfield after causing the Wallabies headaches in Brisbane before his 58th-minute departure; however, sources have reported Tuipulotu has battled hamstring concerns throughout the week.

Instead, Ireland's Bundee Aki has been called upon to form a new centre combination with Scotsman Huw Jones.

Elsewhere in the backline, Jamison Gibson-Park and Finn Russell reprise their halves partnership while starting outside backs James Lowe, Tommy Freeman and Hugo Keenan remain unchanged from the First Test.

Two changes have been made on the Lions backline bench with Farrell and Blair Kinghorn taking up the #22 and #23 jerseys respectively.

Up front, several changes have been made to the pack that helped deliver a 27-19 victory over the Wallabies last weekend with Ellis Genge moving to the bench for Andrew Porter to form an all-Ireland front row with Dan Sheehan and Tadgh Furlong.

Joe McCarthy drops out entirely, replaced in the second row by Ollie Chessum who partners skipper Maro Itoje with James Ryan providing cover from the pine.

Welshman Jac Morgan also moves into the #20 jersey in place of England's Ben Earl to support the unchanged starting Test backrow of Tadgh Beirne, Tom Curry and Jack Conan.

In a statement, Lions coach Andy Farrell warned of a "massive reaction" from the Wallabies.

"We have put ourselves in a good position after the First Test, but we know there will be a massive reaction from this Wallaby team," he said.

“Everyone saw the quality they have in Brisbane and we know we will have to be a lot better than we were last week.

“The opportunity to play in front of 100,000 supporters at the MCG, one of the world’s most iconic stadiums, is what makes Lions Tours unique and special … and we know our Lions supporters will get behind the team on Saturday and create a fantastic atmosphere."
