He might be the last Welshman in the side after Tomas Williams was ruled out of the remainder of the British and Irish Lions tour - but Jac Morgan has gone a long way to challenging for the number seven jersey after a man of the match performance against the Queensland Reds.

It was a confidence-building performance for Andy Farrell's side, with the Welsh loose forward all over the match, also picking up a try for his efforts.

However, despite the 52-12 blowout, the forward remained notably grounded following the conclusion of the match.

"I thought it was going to be an 80 minute performance," Morgan admitted to reporters.

"The physicality of the Reds brought, especially in that first half, they were attacking us and really testing us. I thought we'd done well as a group to come out and keep on performing.

"We've been training and we've been coming together and we've been practising and the whole squad focuses to get whatever team that comes out on game day to get them as best prepared as possible.

"That was the job of last weekend and we've only got one opportunity. We've just got to perform."

If there was pressure on the Lions, they didn't show it in a clinical second half - their strong counter attack, support play and ability to shift the ball wide eventually wearing the Reds down.

It has come with mixed feelings for Morgan, after his Welsh teammate was ruled out of the rest of the tour after picking up an injury against the Western Force.

However, Morgan revealed he has been speaking with several former Welsh players who have worn the Lions jersey for advice.

"Gutted for Tomas [Williams]. He's had a fantastic season and he's been playing well as well," Morgan lamented.

"Really gutted that he's picked up that injury. I think the whole squad are gutted as well because of the person he is and what he brought to the squad and the character he was.

"I spoke to a couple of boys who have been before and they said it's a hell of an experience and opportunity to mix with everyone else and play with other people from other countries.

"They just said to enjoy it as much as possible.

"[Justin] Tipuric was one that I spoke to, and then Adam Beard."

Despite the strong performance, Morgan is not taking his spot for granted - confirming that competition for positions in the squad is incredibly fierce, as Farrell lines up his final side for the Wallabies.

"There's a lot of competition going up a notch," Morgan admitted.

"It's great to be around the players - to learn and to try and develop as well.

"You want to try and perform. Every time you go on a field, whenever you're in training, you try and get better and best prepare for whatever team goes on the weekend.

"There's a great bunch of boys here and it makes our experience a lot better and being able to get to know all these players and learn from everyone in the competition. It's been great, I've enjoyed it.

"It's been a little bit different because of the way we play in Somerset and the way we play in Wales.

"There's been a lot of learnings since we've joined up. Obviously, it's a little bit different with how things go, but it's good to play here."
