Super W Teams: All the team news for Round One

The Super W had its season launch at C.ex International Stadium in Coffs Harbour.

Super W is set to kick off for another year this weekend, with the Reds hosting the defending champion Waratahs in a blockbuster opening match.

The action will then head to Queanbeyan as the Brumbies welcome the Rebels to Seiffert Oval.

The opening round will be completed next week when the President's XV make their competition debut against the Western Force in Coffs Harbour

Saturday 19 May 1:35 pm AEST – Reds v Waratahs at Bottomley Park, ad-free, live and on demand on Stan Sport

The Reds have named a strong squad for their opening game of the season, headlined by captain Cobie-Jane Morgan.

The Wallaroo is joined in the halves by her Easts teammate Loretta Lealiifano as they look to upset the defending champions.

Vice-captain Lucy Lockhart slots into blindside flanker along with Carola Kreis as April Ngatupuna completes the back-row.

Wallaroo Cecilia Smith comes into the centres with Diaz Seumanutafa whilst Ivania Wong, Lusia Sekona and Emily Bass make up the back three.

Meanwhile, the Waratahs have named an imposing side to kick off their title defence.

Wallaroos captain Grace Hamilton leads the side from number eight, joined in the back row by fellow Wallaroos Emily Chancellor and Piper Duck.

Veteran halfback Illiseva Batibasaga links up with Arabella McKenzie in the halves whilst Mahalia Murphy slots in as fullback.

“There is a lot of young talent in New South Wales and we’re looking forward to playing this Saturday,” coach Campbell Aitken said.

“All of the girls have been working really hard so it is a great reward for them, especially for those who will be making their debuts.”

Brumbies captain Michaela will be hoping for a strong start to their season in front of their Queanbeyan faithful as they take on the Rebels.

The Wallaroo slots into lock alongside Grace Kemp, forming a formidable pack that includes hooker and vice-captain Harriet Elleman.

Lillyann Mason-Spice will make her debut for the Brumbies at centre, joined by Siokapesi Palu.

As for their Rebels, they will be planning a major upset, led by inspirational captain Melanie Kawa.

Wallaroo Ashley Marsters slots in at hooker, joined by Rebels' Super W Player of the Year Janita Lareta and Eirenei Nanai.

"I’m really excited especially after our last training run on Wednesday,” said coach Alana Thomas.

“We were really happy with how that went and all the players have been working so hard on the field, so it’s great to see it all coming together before Round 1. Our focus this pre-season has been focused on us and how we want to play the game.

“A number of players are new to the Super W, however they have been playing rugby for a number of years here in Melbourne, so I am excited to see them out on the field on Saturday.”

The President's XV have confirmed their inaugural team for their Round One match against the Western Force.

Gordon back-rower Alex Sulusi will take the captain's armband, joined in the back row by Hana Lane and Grace Qaranivalu.

Front-rower and Wallaroo Melissa Fatu is joined in the front-row by Ayla Cook and Miki Trobjevich as they prepare for their first game in Super W.

Jemina McCalman is joined in the centres by Vani Va'agag Arei whilst Manly scrumhalf Paris Ingegneri partners Isla Norman-Bell in the halves.

Meanwhile, the Force have confirmed Trilleen Pomare will captain the side as they look to get their season off to a strong side.

She forms a formidable backline involving fellow Wallaroo Ariana Hira-Herangi, who slots into inside centre.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be coaching the Western Force Super W team and representing WA,” coach Wayne Walden said in a statement.

“A lot of hard work has gone in to make this a reality and I’m really excited."
