Super W: All the team news for Round One

Super W is finally here with all six clubs announcing their teams for the opening round of the 2022 competition.

This year's edition welcomes Fijiana Drua to Super W, who will kick off their campaign against the Melbourne Rebels at Endeavour Hills Rugby Club on Match 5.

The season will kick off with the Western Force welcoming the Queensland Reds to Perth, their first home game in nearly two years.

It will round out with defending champions NSW Waratahs making the trip down south to face the Brumbies at GIO Stadium.

Friday 4 March 7:35 pm AEDT – Western Force v Queensland Reds at HBF Park, ad-free, live and on demand on Stan Sport

The Western Force have named a strong side for the season opener, with Trilleen Pomare set to lead the way from the wing.

She is joined by winger and former Olympic referee Madeline Putz, with Turiti Galiki slotting into fullback.

Ariana Hina has been named in the centres, forming a formidable partnership along with Huia Swannell.

Rebecca Clough has been named in the second-row with Mahalia Ellis, rejoining the Force for the 2022 season.

Meanwhile, the Reds have confirmed Shannon Parry will captain the side on her Super W debut.

The Olympics gold medalist slots into openside flanker, joined in the back row by Hana Lane and Sophie Holyman.

It's a brand new halves partnership with Sarah Lewis slotting into scrumhalf alongside Skyla Adams.

Liz Patu has been named at tight-head prop with Alapeta Ngauamo and President's XV standout Tasmin Sheppard completing the front-row.

Rebels coach Alana Thomas has confirmed Kirsty Matapa will start on the wing against the Fijiana Drua.

Matapa is joined by Amy Williams and Annie Buntine in the back three, with young gun Jade Te Aute named in the halves alongside Wallaroo Georgia Cormick.

Anome Mafaufau will become Rebel #85, named in the front-row along with Janita Kareta and Ashley Marsters.

She is joined on debut by Hope Schuster, who partners Meretiana Robinson in the centres.

Drua number eight Bitila Tawake will lead the side in their historic Super W opener.

Flankers Sereima Leweniqila and Ema Adivitaloga complete the back-row as they look to back up their trial win over the Queensland Reds.

Vice-captain Merewalesi Rokouono has been named at flyhalf, with Rusila Tamoi set to line up at scrumhalf.

The Brumbies have confirmed Wallaroos legend Ash Hewson will start at flyhalf, capping a remarkable comeback.

The 42-year-old will partner Jasmin Huriwai in the halves, who makes her Brumbies debut.

Rebecca Smyth will captain the side from the back of the scrum, whilst Grace Kemp and Ashley Fernandez complete the second row.

Meanwhile, Wallaroos player of national interest (PONI) winger Jemima McCalman with will start on the right wing with Mana Furuta set to become the club's first Japanese player

As for the Waratahs, they have named Katrina Barker to lead the side in the centres, with Grace Hamilton (knee) set to come off the bench as she recovers from injury.

Anita Faiamsui Brown will start on debut in the back-row, joined by Wallaroo Emily Chancellor and Piper Duck.

Lori Cramer will make a long-awaited Waratahs debut at fullback, joined in the back three with Margot Vella and Mahalia Murphy.

They head to Canberra looking to continue their unbeaten run, having never lost in the competition.
