Waratahs playmaker Will Harrison has admitted he's happy to play wherever the coaches ask as the club searches for their first win.

Harrison has made the switch from his preferred position of flyhalf to fullback over the past two weeks after the return of good mate Ben Donaldson.

Whilst the move initially came out of necessity following a late Izaia Perese injury, Harrison is enjoying the freedom that comes with the role as he gets used to the nuances between the two positions.

“Fullback is a bit different and I’m still trying to find my feet and I’m still trying to find my grove there,” Harrison said on Tuesday.

“It’s something that gives me a bit more freedom and supports my running game a lot more so yeah it’s been fun. There’s a lot more running that’s for sure.

“I think it’s just the positioning, you have to get around the field more and try and get yourself into the game whereas ten you can really control and take your mark on the game.”

Try and stop Izaia Perese

The move allows Harrison and Donaldson, the two long-time best mates, to once again play alongside each other.

Whilst he admits he would like to prefer the jersey held by Donaldson, Harrison has more contempt playing wherever's best for the team in the search for their first win.

“It’s been awesome. Me and Dono (Ben Donaldson) have been sharing the field together for 12 years now,” he said. “One of us has always been ten and the other has been around that ten jersey.

“I’ve really enjoyed playing alongside him and I feel like I play my best footy with him so I’m really enjoying it.

“I’ve grown up playing flyhalf and that’s my best position but I’d like to be known as a versatile player who can play 10, 12, 15.

"I see myself long-term as a ten but I’m happy to play wherever I’m needed.”

With just two weeks left, the 21-year-old was quick to recognise the importance of enjoying his Rugby after a tough season.

“For us as a group, I think it’s more about enjoying the last two weeks,” he added.

“It’s been a pretty tough season. We’ve had a lot of highs and lows but as I said, we’ve got a good trip to Dunedin this week and then finishing off at Brookvale in front of what should be a good crowd.

“For me personally, I’m trying to enjoy my footy for the last two weeks as we head into Shute Shield.

He also takes plenty of confidence out of their ever-improving attack as they continue to build combinations following a frustrating Super Rugby AU season.

“I think the combinations have been key,” Harrison believes.

“In Super Rugby AU, we were rattled with a lot of injuries. Izzy (Perese) out with suspension, Jake (Gordon) went down early and obviously Lalakai Foketi is back and found some form.

“In the backline, we had a lot of people moving position so we feel comfortable now in the midfield to help our attack.”
