Another epic between these two teams.

The Brumbies have confirmed the re-signing of promising hooker Lachlan Lonergan until at least the end of 2022.

Lonergan has experienced a breakout 2021, playing in all but one of the Brumbies' Super Rugby AU season.

His impressive form saw him rewarded with selection in the Wallabies 40-man squad last month, eventually earning his first start in their Final loss to the Queensland Reds.

The 21-year-old was pleased to secure his future in the nation's capital, having come through the Academy system and NRC.

“I'm stoked to be able to secure another year here at home and at the Brumbies," Lonergan said in a statement.

"I'm definitely feeling a lot more comfortable at Super Rugby level but I also know there's a lot of improvement left in my game.

"To have the opportunity to represent the club I grew up supporting my whole life is something I never take for granted and I can't wait to get going in Super Rugby Trans-Tasman and achieving success here at the Brumbies."

Brumbies open up the Reds for the opening try of the Final.

He follows the steps of halfback and brother Ryan, who signed a two-year deal to remain at the club last September.

“Lachy has been one of the standouts for our side this year and to know he'll be sticking around for at least a further year is really pleasing," Brumbies coach Dan McKellar added.

"As an organisation we have spoken a lot about developing our local talent and giving them opportunities at this level and Lachlan is another who's taken that opportunity with both hands.

"He's a real talent but it's his hard work and willingness to take on feedback and improve that gives us all confidence he's got a very bright future here at the Brumbies and in Australian Rugby."
