In what could be his final game in gold for the foreseeable future, Samu Kerevi burst through the Canadian line, eventually handing it off to Nathan Lawson for the opening try.
Canada have been one of the most improved sides on the series in recent years and were keen to show it as they levelled the scores via Connor Braid.
However, Australia had memories of their disappointing 8th place finish at Rio on their mind.
Josh Turner would draw the defender, allowing Lachie Anderson to race away for the 14-7 lead on half-time.
Captain Nick Malouf would then add to the dominance, producing a sublime chip and chase for the third try of the game.
Starting from just inside the Australian half, Malouf would take advantage of ample space behind the Canadians line, winning the foot race for the ball.
They would extend the lead shortly afterwards as Lewis Holland put Lachie Miller through a hole to secure the victory.
With time running down, Tim Walsh's men were forced to defend their line down a man with Dylan Pietsch shown yellow for a dangerous tackle.
However, they managed to hold strong as they pulled off the victory, finishing their tournament on a high.
