Rugby.com.au presents 'Road to England': A position-by-position breakdown of the key contenders and bolters ahead of the squad selection later in the year.

It moves onto the hookers, with likely six spots available given the make-ups of previous World Cup sqauds.

Props

Incumbent (Players named in the current squad)
Tania Naden

Naden has been a mainstay in the squad under Jo Yapp and has emerged as a reliable option in the 23.

The Brumby has found herself on the bench in the opening two games of the Test season to Katalina Amosa but her experience is valuable.

The 33-year-old made her debut in the last World Cup and is hunting for her second appearance.

Adiana Talakai

Talakai’s road to the gold jersey has been plagued by misfortune.

The Waratah missed last year with a long-term knee injury before personal reasons ruled her out of games against Fiji and New Zealand.

However, the hooker is one of the best in the country and should be a major part of the Wallaroos’ plans in 2025.

Katalina Amosa

Amosa has been the biggest bolter of the 2025 season in the forward pack.

After most of the year coming off the bench for the Brumbies, the sister of Wallaby Brandon was thrust into the starting side and thrived.

Amosa looks at home in the front-row and has raced into contention for the World Cup.

Contenders (not selected in latest squad)
Tiarna Molloy

Molloy has been in and out of the squad since her Wallaroos debut against the USA in 2022.

The Reds hooker played a big role in the WXV 2 success but missed selection for this year’s squad.

Molloy’s versatility is big, having played back-rower in the past and will be hungry to push her case in the coming months.

Hera-Barb Malcolm Heke

Malcolm Heke is in a similar boat, having debuted last year for the Wallaroos.

The hooker is part of the contracted squad but was one of the biggest omissions in the squad for the Fiji/Pac Four.

Britt Merlo

Merlo impressed for the Waratahs during Adiana Talakai’s absence at hooker.

The Sydney Uni product stepped into the starting side for the Super Rugby W Final and was big in the victory.

She will continue to push her case at club level.
