Wallaroos coach Jo Yapp has praised superstar Charlotte Caslick's attitude after her game-turning effort on the wing against the USA.

Yapp admittedly has played Caslick out of position since her first minute of Test Rugby after injuries to wingers Maya Stewart and Bienne Terita.

However, the 30-year-old thrived against the Americans, scoring a try and setting up another in the 27-19 win.

The two-time World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year blitzed the USA with her running game, but her kicking game was most impressive.

The run-first approach of Sevens coach Tim Walsh had limited Caslick's opportunity to show off her boot but twice she put together smart kicks that gifted Australia possession inside the opposition's five metre line.

"I'm really pleased for Charlotte, because she's made a really brave choice to transition early into 15s, and she's not necessarily playing right now the position we see her long term," Yapp said post-match.

"She's only going to learn by being on the field in 15s, even if that is wing, and we know she's an exceptionally talented rugby player, and she did really well last week defensively.

"This week's been a big focus for her, trying to get her on the ball, and to see her then start to use her other skill sets, when she was caught and those kicks in behind and being able to turn teams and put them under pressure, that was great for her."

Yapp was staying calm after the win, knowing the win will mean little come September when the two teams will likely battle it out in the pool stages for a spot in the quarter-finals.

"Everyone built this game up because obviously they're in our pool, and rightly so, it was a big game for us in terms of confidence going into the World Cup, but there's a lot of training and a lot of games between now and the World Cup," she said.

"As big as this was, we've still got to continue to look forward now."

For captain Siokapesi Palu, the win was made even special by the fact the Brumby could do it where she calls home.

Palu lit up the ground with the initial break for Caslick's try and stressed the importance of continuing their hot run as they make it five wins from their last six.

"It's all about building confidence, and the girls need that win just to instil belief that things are working," she added.

"...That game alone is a statement that we can definitely step up and front physically, and we're here to compete, and you can see that with what we were able to produce on the field today.
