The Western Force are locked into a Swyftx Super Women's semi-final after their historic 28-21 win over reigning champions NSW Waratahs at Palmrya Rugby Club.

The fourth-round victory was the first ever defeat for the Waratahs against Australian sides in 38 games. They had won the last eight games against the Force.

It put the Force in second-place, tied on nine points with the Waratahs, ahead of their final round game against the Brumbies in Canberra on Sunday.

Coach Dylan Parsons told his squad to enjoy the win, but they would be "back on the horse" after the weekend.

"I told them to enjoy the moment. History does not happen often," he said.

"We enjoy that now and we get back on the horse".

The Waratahs went into the break with a 21-7 lead, scoring three tries to one from Force winger Adi Vani Buleki.

The momentum changed after the break and with the wind at their backs the Force added two tries from centre Cecilia Smith and one from hooker Hera-Barb Malcolm Heke. Scrum-half Sam Wood slotted all four conversions.

It is the second comeback win for the Force after their dramatic 21-17 victory over the Queensland Reds.

Parsons was confident his side would bounce back after the break.

"We just knew that the breeze was probably a three-try breeze," Parsons said.

"We were really confident going into half-time, even though we were two tries down.

"We just knew that we were not that far off and the kicking game we had was going to be able to pin them down and we were going to be able to score points."

Parsons said there was no "rah-rah" half-time speech.

"I was confident at half-time," he said.

"I told them they knew what they needed to do and trust each other.

"We really stood up to hold them out for as long as we did in the first-half when we were down their for such a long period.

"That gave us a lot of confidence.

"We knew that wind was so strong that when we got there we would score.

"There is a real belief in this group.

"We can be points down, players down but we back ourselves and trust each other to get the job done."

Parsons will likely need to  go deep into his squad for the Brumbies clash after picking up a few injuries.

"We are locked in for a semi-final but the Brumbies result will determine where we play," he said.

"We want a home semi-final and we want to make that happen."
