The NSW Waratahs have bolstered their second-row stocks with the signing of four-cap Wallaby Angus Blyth.

The Sydney-born lock joins the Waratahs after 75 caps for the Queensland Reds ahead of the 2026 season.

Blyth came straight into the Reds system from school, debuting at the end of 2018.

He would grind his way through the Reds lock ranks before impressing enough for a Test debut against Wales in July, featuring against Georgia and South Africa.

The 27-year-old was eager to test himself in a new environment and regain his spot in the Wallabies set-up.

"For me, this is a new chapter to look forward to in my rugby career,” Blyth said in a statement. "Going to the NSW Waratahs is a major change of scenery with new coaches and new players and it will definitely push me out of my comfort zone.

“I have been at the Reds for the past eight seasons; so, getting into something different in Sydney is exciting.

"As a lock, it's always about nailing your set piece detail, tackling low, hitting rucks and physicality.

“I want to keep improving, play more minutes at the NSW Waratahs and earn the respect of my new team.”

Blyth adds to the second-row reinforcements in NSW, with former Wallaby Matt Philip already making his debut for the club during the British & Irish Lions tour.

“The NSW Waratahs are building a strong squad and I'm looking forward to what’s ahead for 2026 and 2027,” he added.

"There are big events happening in rugby in Australia…You want to be pushing for the Wallabies. That's the childhood dream and always has been.”

NSW Waratahs coach Dan McKellar was pleased to secure a quality piece like Blyth to their tight-five.

“Angus is a big body, a genuine lock,” he notes.

“He has real presence around set piece and to win any game or competition at Super Rugby level you need quality set piece. Angus will certainly add to that.”
