Next Gen 7s: Waratahs dominate Round 3 as Aussie stars shine on return

A high-flying New South Wales extended their ISPS HANDA Next Gen 7s form into an undefeated Round 3 performance at Brumbies HQ.

The Waratahs ground out two identical 19-10 wins over hosts ACT either side of a 24-12 victory over Queensland, who failed to register a Round 3 win in Canberra.

Aussie Sevens flyer Piper Simons was key to NSW's perfect day out, scoring two tries and creating plenty of chances, while Darci Turinui was among the Tahs top performers.

Despite their narrow losses to NSW, ACT impressed across all four games with two hard-fought wins against Queensland.

Super Rugby Women's flyer Brooklyn Joyce starred in the Brumbies' opening 31-12 win over the Reds, scoring a hat-trick, while Ella Ryan and Lily Bone produced strong showings.

Returning Aussie Sevens star Madison Ashby also impressed in her return from a 484-day injury absence with a try against NSW.

Queensland nevertheless had their moments with Bond Uni produce and recent Aussie Sevens debutant Amahli Hala their standout performer, scoring two tries in three games.

Attentions now turn to the final round of Next Gen 7s at Ballymore Stadium on September 13.
