With the Rebels set to open their Super Rugby Trans-Tasman campaign against the Blues on Saturday , To'omua was excited to tie down his future until the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.

“I’m really excited to re-commit to the Melbourne Rebels and Rugby Australia," he said in a statement.

"We are building something special at the Rebels and it is great to be a part of it alongside the rest of the team.

“Like our fans, I was disappointed with how we finished up in the Harvey Norman Super Rugby AU season and we are keen to come out really strong this Saturday against the Blues and play to our potential.”

Try of the year contender from Matt To'omua??

Rugby Australia Director of Rugby Scott Johnson was pleased to have To'omua’s signature secured for the next two years, confident that the 47-test veteran can help take the Wallabies to the next level.

“I’m really pleased we can keep someone of Matt’s talent within our system for another two years," he added.

“His leadership and experience has been invaluable for the Wallabies and the Rebels. Matt has the ability to control the tempo of the game whilst creating opportunities to attack which is a big reason why he’s found success recently.”

“His commitment marks another key signing ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, in addition to the development of our next generation of internationals."
