With the British & Irish squad announced and Super Rugby Pacific winding down, all eyes turn to Australia to see who will be named for the Wallabies.

When it comes to positions in a national rugby side, Joe Schmidt has several conundrums to contend with going into the Lions series.

Watch every game of SMARTECH Super Rugby Pacific live and on-demand via Stan Sport.

Continuing our series, Rugby.com.au breaks down each position, leading up to the announcement in July.

Today, we turn to the centres, with likely anywhere between four and six spots available given the make-ups of previous Lions squads and the versatility of certain players in the squad.

Josh Flook

Flook has struggled with injury throughout 2025 but came back with an excellent last fortnight.

The outside centre was one of the Reds’ best in their quarter-final defeat, having scored on return against the Fijian Drua.

The 23-year-old started the first Test of 2024 but faces serious competition to retain his spot.

Len Ikitau

Ikitau is one of the best centres in the world and has backed this up in Super Rugby Pacific.

The superstar will play a big role in the Brumbies’ semi-final push on Saturday with eight tries in 2025.

His selection is a near guarantee, but the question is which centre position he’ll play.

Hunter Paisami

Paisami has been rock solid in the Reds’ backline as he looks to reclaim his Wallabies spot.

The 27-year-old has established himself firmly as the in-form Australian inside centre over the past couple of years.

He should feature in plans for 2025 - but questions remain on how other pieces fit into the centres.

Hamish Stewart

Stewart was a big part of the Force’s 2025 season after his breakthrough year in the gold jersey.

In terms of defensive options, Stewart is as good as they come, whilst a solid distributor.

He faces competition for the inside centre position but his ability to cover fullback and flyhalf is a bonus.

Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii

Suaalii is a superstar in World Rugby and thrived in his debut Super Rugby season.

Injuries derailed his season but the 21-year-old confirmed he’ll be at 100% for the Lions tour.

Another that can be locked into the squad. Where he plays? That’s another matter of fact after largely playing at fullback for the Waratahs after his selection at outside centre for the Spring Tour.

Contenders
David Feliuai

Feliuai spent the majority of last year in the Wallabies set-up but never received a maiden cap.

The former Rebel has grown in confidence at the Brumbies and has a big chance to impress against Quinn Tupaea and the Chiefs on Saturday.

Ollie Sapsford

Sapsford is a quiet achiever for the Brumbies who wouldn’t look out of place in the Test set-up.

He can play either wing or centre, starting across the backline in 2025, with this versatility a big factor in any squad.

Bayley Kuenzle

Like Sapsford, Kuenzle is able to slot in wherever and thrive.

The Force utility has been on Schmidt’s radar ever since his appointment as Wallabies coach.

A long-term knee injury ruled him out of any Test action in 2024 but returned in Round Ten with back-to-back tries against the Hurricanes and Chiefs.

Samu Kerevi

Kerevi’s Spring Tour ended in disaster with a red card against Wales, but the powerful centre returned to Japan with a vengeance.

14 tries in 12 matches for Urayasu showcased what the dominant centre can add to a group, with every try leading to calls for his selection to grow.

The 31-year-old adds a powerful edge to any squad and would give the backline crucial experience in a big series.

Joey Walton

Walton is another grafter who has caught Schmidt's eye in the past.

The Waratah hasn’t been involved in official squads but has been called up by Schmidt for a number of unofficial camps.

The 25-year-old has battled through injury in 2025 but was still one of the Waratahs’ most consistent in a tough year.
