Wallabies winger Max Jorgensen was proud to see his hard work pay off after coming up with a wonder try during their defeat to the British & Irish Lions.

The hosts found themselves on the back foot early before Jorgensen produced some individual brilliance in the 28th minute.

The 20-year-old's incredible work-rate was on display as he raced through to chase a Jake Gordon box-kick, stripping fullback Hugo Keenan and sprinting past Finn Russell to ignite a sold-out Suncorp Stadium.

"It's a skill we practice almost every day at training, getting up in the contests. It's a big part of rugby in general now across all games," Jorgensen told the media after the game.

"I've been working hard on that and trying to get hard and high into the contests and came away with the ball and the try."

It was one of several big moments for the young winger, stopping a Huw Jones try shortly afterwards after dragging the Scottish centre down, who would be pinged for not releasing on the ground as he dived for the try line.

"It wasn't an ideal start. It's not what we planned, but the Lions are a good team, so we knew they were going to come out strong. We just try to keep a cool head and stick to our plan," he said on the match," he said.

"Ultimately, ended up working in the second half, but we just need to do that for 80 [minutes]."

Jorgensen and the Wallabies must rally in Melbourne to keep the series alive ahead of the third and final game in Sydney.

Influential prop Allan Alaalatoa was seen post-match rallying the group on the field as they look to carry the momentum from an improved second half.

"We always try to stay connected after losses like that because all the boys are pretty gutted. The main thing coming out of that is we have massive confidence from that game," said Jorgensen.

"There's still two games to get, and we can definitely get this series winning, especially after that result tonight.

"...You look at that second half, we pretty much had them the whole second half. I think it was three tries apiece. There are some opportunities there that we missed out on whether it was our fundamentals we messed up a bit, or it was just that last pass we didn't get.

"We've built massive confidence from that second half going into next week."
