Queensland Reds outside back Jock Cambell is embracing his opportunity to join the Wallabies camp, hoping to turn it into a maiden Test debut against England in July.
Campbell is one of eight uncapped players in the group, taking part in a three-day camp on the Gold Coast.
Whilst he was excited about his selection, the Reds flyer understands there is still plenty of work to be done if he wants to feature during the three-match series.
“I’m very excited to be a part of this camp,” he told reporters.
“As much as I would like it to be that July series (against England), it’s just a three-day camp so just looking forward to getting some good feedback from the coaches and hopefully work on my game and be back here.”
The 26-year-old has emerged as one of the Reds' most consistent performances since his debut in 2019, however, was forced to watch teammate after teammate get a call-up to the national side without any luck.
Having burst onto the scene comparatively late to his fellow Queensland standouts, it was a process that had become natural for Campbell, refusing to let it affect him.
“Not really (frustrated by the long wait) because it’s been my whole career,” Campbell admitted.
“I played club for a bit and then it took a bit to get into the Reds. I’m not someone who is easily frustrated, I’m a pretty elated and chilled guy.
“Obviously I would’ve liked to be here sooner but getting the nod now is exciting.”
Campbell missed Saturday's statement win over the Brumbies with a hand injury, undergoing surgery last week.
He will likely miss their match-up with the Rebels in a fortnight, pushing to return in time for Super Round as he remains positive.
“It’s just a bit of perspective,” he explained.
“Obviously it’s a bit frustrating at the time but everyone has injuries. Breaking your hand, it’s only a short term injury and we have a bye so I’m trying to look it from that way and start to move forward rather than sulking and looking done on it.”
