Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies scrum half Harrison Goddard, flanker Lachlan Hooper and prop Harry Vella have all departed the club after the 2025 season.

Goddard, 27, moves to an unnamed club in Japan, while Hooper, 21, is currently plying his trade with Northland Taniwha in New Zealand’s NPC club competition, making his debut at the weekend against Taranaki Bulls. Vella, 24, is currently undergoing rehab for a recent knee operation at the Brumbies.

General Manager of Professional Rugby and Pathways Cameron Treloar paid tribute to the players for their contributions to the club.

“I would like to thank Harrison, Lachlan and Harry for everything they’ve done for the Brumbies during their time here,” Treloar said.

“They have all bought into the ethos of the club and given their all for the Brumbies jersey. They will be missed and we wish them all the best in the next steps of their career.”

Brumby #257 Goddard grew up in Sydney and featured for the Melbourne Rebels, LA Giltinis in the USA and the Waratahs, before arriving at the Brumbies ahead of the 2024 season. The scrum half went on to make 26 appearances for the club, scoring a try against rivals the Waratahs in last year’s 40-16 Round 7 win at GIO Stadium. He recently featured in the inaugural First Nations & Pasika XV team that were narrowly beaten 24-19 by the Lions at Marvel Stadium.

Born in Bathurst, Hooper moved to Canberra with his older brother, Tom, while also featuring for local club Tuggeranong Vikings. After featuring for Australia U20s at the World Rugby U20s Championship in South Africa in 2023, he played a key role in the Brumbies U19s Championship winning team later that year. He was elevated into the club’s Super Rugby Pacific squad ahead of the start of this season and made his debut against the British & Irish Lions at GIO Stadium, coming on as a substitute to play alongside his brother for the first time in a professional capacity.

Brumby #259 Vella grew up in Queensland and represented Australia U18s in 2020 and 2021, before making the move to Canberra. He was promoted from the Elite Development Squad in 2022 for the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific season, having impressed in the club’s Pathways Program. He made his club debut against the Moana Pasifika at GIO Stadium in March last year.

The trio join Tom Hooper, Noah Lolesio, Jack Debreczeni and Ben O’Donnell in leaving the club at the end of this season.
