The upcoming Australian Schools and Junior Rugby Union (ASJRU) Championships represent a monumental shift in the nation's age-grade landscape.

Co-hosted by Australian Schools Rugby Union (ASRU) and Rugby Australia (RA) and delivered with the support of Sunshine Coast Council, the ASJRU Championships will see 49 teams from across every state and territory compete for national glory at Sunshine Coast Stadium and Kawana Sports Precinct.

Here's everything you need to know about the 2025 ASJRU Championships, kicking off Monday 7 July on the Sunshine Coast:

Tournament Format

The ASJRU Championships incorporates both rugby formats (XVs and 7s) and will see 49 teams compete across seven different divisions.

Queensland (13 teams) and New South Wales (12 teams) will have the largest playing contingent in 2025 while Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia (four teams) are well represented.

The Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania will also field two teams apiece alongside the Lloyd McDermott Rugby Development team. Two further sides will play under a Combined States banner.

In this inaugural event, ASRU teams will compete against each other while RA sides compete in their respective National Junior Rugby Championship (NJRC) divisions.

The divisions are as follows:

ASRU U18 Boys XVs

Eight (8) teams - QLD 1, QLD 2, NSW 1, NSW 2, NSWJRU, ACT, Victoria, Western Australia

ASRU U18 Girls 7s

Ten (10) teams - QLD Maroon, QLD White, NSW 1, NSW 2, ACT, Victoria, Northern Territory, Western Australia, Lloydies, Combined States

ASRU U16 Girls 7s

Eight (8) teams - QLD Maroon, QLD White, NSW 1, NSW 2, Victoria, Northern Territory, Western Australia, Lloydies

NJRC U18 Boys XVs

Six (6) teams - The Associated Schools (QLD), NSWJRU, Victoria (U17), Tasmania, South Australia, Northern Territory

NJRC U18 Girls XVs

Six (6) teams - Brisbane City, Queensland Country, Sydney Juniors, NSW Country, South Australia, Western Australia

NJRC U16 Boys XVS

Five (5) teams - Brisbane City, Queensland Country, Tasmania, South Australia, Northern Territory

NJRC U16 Girls XVs

Six (6) teams - Brisbane City, Queensland Country, Sydney Juniors, NSW Country, South Australia, Tasmania/Combined States

The ASJRU Championships are free to watch and attend, both live in-person and via rugby.com.au/videos.

The tournament kicks off Monday 7 July and runs through to Sunday 13 July across Kawana Sports Precinct and Sunshine Coast Stadium.
