Will Harrison slots it home in extra-time to seal an epic come from behind win for the Waratahs

Super Rugby Pacific continues to deliver special matches as the NSW Waratahs somehow found a way to defeat the Crusaders 43-40 in extra-time.

Will Harrison was the man, twice clutching up for the Waratahs as the lead changed a dozen times.

So what did we learn?

1. Will Harrison

Will Harrison announced himself on the big stage for his boyhood club.

The flyhalf has gone through hell and back with injuries so the pressure of a kick after the siren to tie the game was nothing in comparison to what he’s gone through.

It takes a special player to remain calm and not only once, but twice deliver the goods in a must-win game.

Comparison will be made to Tane Edmed's misses in past games but Edmed's kicking off the tee got them into this position to start with, nailing all five attempts and deserves credit for the way he took the game on.

Moments like this will mean the world to the Waratahs after losing so many games in similar positions in past years.

For Harrison, it'd be the perfect ending to his Hollywood return amid all the struggles. But the way he's playing, there's so many scenes yet to come

2. The real slim Swinton

It’s a new look but same attitude for Lachie Swinton as his brilliant 2024 season continues.

He swan-dived over the line for the opening before shoving off Cullen Grace to get the ‘Tahs on the attack.

Swinton was joined by Langi Gleeson and Ned Hanigan, both at their best after return from injuries. This combination of this second and back row is the best they have.

This was a Waratah pack delivering on his potential as it rolled over the Crusaders at times.

As for the blonde hair? Swinton notes he lost a ‘dice roll’ a few weeks back, which led to the forfeit. If this form continues, it might have to stay.

3. Slice of Heaven

Hooker Julian Heaven deserves massive credit for the Waratahs win after an inspirational night.

The hooker has stepped up when asked and went the full 83 minutes as the starter.

He stepped up when they needed a burst with a great carry to break multiple defenders and score a crucial try.

The name carries so much potential for puns (as the Stan Sport crew brilliantly showed) but his performance spoke for itself.

4. Deja vu

There were signs another special night was coming for Waratahs fans.

Like in round two, they conceded within seconds, only to rally instantly.

The Waratahs even tried the same play that created their opening try in their 2022 victory over the eventual champions at Leichhardt, only for Dylan Pietsch to be brought down, who was superb.

With the 2014 premiership-winning team in the stands, Will Harrison then went full Bernard Foley for the win.

5. Reece lightning

Sevu Reece is a special player to watch when he’s on.

The winger tied the Crusaders' all-time try-scoring record as he dominated the Waratahs in the opening 15 minutes, scoring a quick double.

He then set up their third with a great burst, leaving the Waratahs at sea as Dallas McLeod strolled over the line.

Reece is becoming a nightmare for Waratahs fans, having scored five tries in his past four games against the NSW side.
