The powerhouse England women's rugby team have slipped to their first back-to-back defeats in a decade after falling 31-22 to Canada in the WXV Global Series.

The result capped off a second straight weekend of Pacific Four sides sweeping the Six Nations sides, with the USA, New Zealand and Australia all posting wins over the likes of Italy, France and Scotland, respectively.

Maddie Feaunti gave the Red Roses a promising start in Ottawa with a try in the opening 10 minutes, converted by Zoe Harrison.

But the Red Roses were unable to avenge last week's 24-21 defeat in Toronto, which brought their four-year unbeaten run to an end.

World No.1 England overturned a half-time deficit to briefly take a 17-12 lead after the break.

Hooker Amy Cokayne was among the try scorers, having missed three home matches last month with a calf injury before returning against third-ranked Canada last week.

But Canada reclaimed the advantage minutes later before extending their lead to 31-17, with captain Sophie de Goede completing a hat-trick as the hosts pulled clear.

Emma Sing crossed for England in the game's dying minutes to reduce the deficit, but it was ultimately too little too late.

Lock De Goede rounded out her stellar performance with three successful conversions, while Zoe Harrison kicked the only penalty goal of the match in the 42nd minute.

England wrap up their WXV Global Series campaign with a match against the US in New Jersey on Friday.

Likely to be outsiders for that clash, the USA Eagles will come into that game on a five-match unbeaten streak - defeating South Africa in Pretoria in July, followed by close wins over Ireland and Wales on the European leg of the WXV Global Series.

The side swept aside Italy in back-to-back fixtures, claiming their biggest win in over Le Azzurre in Nashville on Saturday, winning 54-24.

In the southern hemisphere, the Wallaroos continued the winning streak with a 38-31 win over Scotland in Canberra on Friday night, wrapping up their year with a three-match sweep over the Scots after victories in Edinburgh and Sydney.

Lastly, in New Zealand, the Black Ferns confirmed a series win over France with a 31-12 win at Okara Park, thanks to two late tries from Mererangi Paul and Braxton Sorensen-McGee.

Looking to bounce back from their heavy 81-12 loss last week, France produced a much improved performance, with two early tries setting up the prospect of a potential upset.

However, the Black Ferns kicked away in the final 15 minutes of the game, with the sides set to their the final match of the series next week in One New Zealand Stadium in Christchurch.
