The Waratahs return to Melbourne to face the Rebels who are chasing their first win of the season.

NSW Waratahs backrower Charlie Gamble has re-signed with the club for another year, keeping him at the club until 2024.

Gamble's rise has been meteoric since his debut in late 2021, coming through club rugby at Petersham and Eastern Suburbs in the Shute Shield.

The 26-year-old had a breakout 2022 campaign, winning Waratahs Forward of the Year.

He was then selected in the opening training squad of 2023 despite not being officially eligible for Wallabies selection until April.

"I'm really excited to be re-signing with the Waratahs, they provided me with the opportunity to play Super Rugby and I’ll always be extremely grateful for that," Gamble said in a statement.

"I love living in Sydney, I love NSW, and I love the Waratahs. Things are building nicely here, and I honestly believe we can do something special with the squad we have.

“The coaching staff, players, and facilities are all first class, and it was a really easy decision for me in the end.”

The decision delighted Darren Coleman, with the versatile Gamble featuring across the back row under his coaching.

"Charlie is a talented and hardworking player, and we're thrilled he’s going to continue to be a Waratah," Coleman believes.

“He was one of the standouts, not just for the Waratahs, but in the whole Super Rugby Pacific competition last season and a big part of our turnaround.

"His dedication and work ethic is second to none, and with our future in mind, he is a huge signing for the team.”

"Charlie is an important player for the Waratahs, and we're delighted to retain his services," NSW Waratahs General Manager of Rugby Andrew Blades added.

“His commitment to the team and his performances for us have been outstanding.

“He’s a player that adds a lot to the organisation on and off the field, and we’re happy he’s staying in NSW for the foreseeable future.”
