The Hurricanes host the Waratahs in Round 11 of Super Rugby Pacific 2024.

Waratahs backrower Charlie Gamble is setting his sights on the Wallabies jersey as he looks to make a statement against the ACT Brumbies.

Gamble confirmed his future at Daceyville for the next two years, recommitting with the NSW Waratahs.

For the former Canterbury product, the deal signifies his love for the team that gave him a chance after initially playing suburban Rugby on his arrival from New Zealand.

“This club’s given me the opportunity that I’ve always wanted," Gamble said.

“I’ve always wanted to play Super Rugby as a kid and to be able to live it out and do it for two more years is pretty awesome."

Gamble has had a brief taste of Wallabies life, called into Dave Rennie's final squad as coach to begin 2023.

It was a remarkable show of belief in the flanker, who was still three months away from being eligible for the Wallabies at the time of selection.

However, Rennie's departure and issues with shoulder subluxations forced Gamble to work his way back up the depth chart.

“That was a good experience for me and to know I can reach that level and be around players like that," he reflects.

“There’s definitely a few things to my game that I want to add. I know I haven’t reached my full potential so if I can do that, I can definitely be back in the mix.”

Gamble knows Saturday's clash with the ACT Brumbies is the perfect place to make a statement with their season on the line.

The Waratahs need to start piling wins together if they want to play finals, sitting five points outside the top eight and with games against the Western Force, Moana Pasifika and Queensland Reds to come.

“The Brumbies have been the pinnacle of Australian Rugby," he added.

“Their forward pack usually dominates the Wallabies so to be able to go head to head proves if you can dominate them then you can play at that level.”
