The next generation of Australian rugby talent is descending on Queensland’s South-East this July for the second year of the Buildcorp Australian Schools and Junior Rugby Union (ASJRU) Championships.

Teams from around the country are already planning the logistics to bring the best of the best to this national stage at the Sunshine Coast Stadium and Kawana Sports Precinct.

The tournament represents the significant and close-knit collaboration between Rugby Australia and the Australian Schools Rugby Union.

In what is a landmark moment in the national youth representative program, the pathway for both boys and girls has been fully aligned, ensuring that every state and territory in the nation can be represented on a single elite stage.

Leading the charge is long-time rugby advocate Buildcorp, who continue their support as the naming rights sponsor for the championships.

With decades of history backing the code—spanning the NRC, Super Rugby Women's, and the Wallaroos—Buildcorp’s involvement provides a sturdy foundation for the country’s emerging stars.

"The Sukkar family and Buildcorp have been great supporters of Australian Rugby at all levels for many years," said Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh.

"The 2026 Buildcorp ASJRU Championships is a collaborative effort to create an aligned pathway for selection to our national teams and highlights our commitment to strengthen the connection from grassroots to the elite side of the game."

Buildcorp Managing Director Tony Sukkar AM echoed the sentiment, noting that the championships are a "natural extension" of their commitment to the game.

"We have supported the community game for many years and through the ASJRU Championships we are able to help young girls and boys from all over Australia take their rugby journey to the national stage" Sukkar said.

The festival of rugby will see more than 50 representative sides battle for national glory across two distinct formats.

The action kicks off with the 7s tournament, running Sunday 5 July and Monday 6 July, before shifting focus to the XVs tournament from Tuesday 7 July to Friday 10 July.

For the Sunshine Coast, the event reinforces its growing reputation as a premier destination for major rugby fixtures.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli emphasised the region's commitment to the sport following the successful hosting of the ANZAC day Test Match between Australia’s Wallaroos and New Zealand’s Black Ferns on 25 April.

“These events are hugely important in the development of young players," Mayor Natoli said.

"It's an exciting opportunity for Australia’s next generation to gain valuable experience at our world-class stadium and adapt to the demands of top-level competition.

Plus, every visitor to the region helps drive economic benefits for our locals, and we love rolling out the welcome mat to Rugby players, support teams and their families.”

The timing of the Buildcorp ASJRU Championships couldn’t be more critical.

Following the success of the British & Irish Lions tour in 2025, and upcoming major international tournaments in the Men’s Rugby World Cup in 2027 and the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2029, the players taking the field this July are the very ones expected to lead Australia through its upcoming "Golden Decade."

As the teams finalise their preparations, the message is clear: the future of Australian rugby isn't just coming—it’s arriving on the Sunshine Coast this July.
