Here's what the players said after the match.

Player of the Match and First Nations Pasifika back-rower Charlie Gamble

“It’s been a special week for our group, and you saw it out there, and the way we fought for each other down a couple of tries.

“We showed the fight that we have and probably just switching off early in the second half cost us but we didn’t give up until the end and it’s been awesome to be a part of it.

“Not many people gave us a chance, and it’s tough to see that we would be smashed by 50 or 100, but we showed that we belonged out there.”

British & Irish Lions captain Owen Farrell

“It wasn’t our best performance, but massive credit to First Nations Pasifika, I thought they came out and gave it to us and came off the line really well to give us trouble.

“We started the game really well but couldn’t get a foothold throughout the game.

“It was a tough 60 minutes and I thought they made a mess of our breakdown and caused some errors but I’m thankful we got the job done in the end,.

First Nations Pasifika captain Kurtley Beale

“I’m really proud of the boys and it’s a special week getting to connect, come together and represent our culture and family so it’s great to connect.

“It was very unique but one we will remember forever, one I’ll remember for a while. It was amazing, and I thought we did what we said we would and pushed it to the Lions.

“It’s an amazing concept and I hope it continues…You saw the heart the boys played with and I think it’s a really great platform for all the young First Nations & Pasifika kids all there watching tonight to watch and aspire for that jersey.

British & Irish Lions hooker Jamie George

“They fronted up, to be fair. We knew they would be very proud and representing that team and they looked hungrier than us which is inexcusable.

“It’s important for us to get the win tonight and take that momentum into Saturday.”

First Nations Pasifika back-rower Rob Leota

“Learning about everyone and their cultures has been awesome this week and I think it showed tonight.

“I wanted to represent Melbourne, which has been home so I wanted one last hurrah in front of this crowd. I’ll cherish this moment forever.”
